To start out, I would just like to thank you all for coming to check this out. I know it’s not much right now but plans and ideas are in the workings as I continue to grow and build this site. So please, bear with me as I learn this whole website thing.
Today I thought I’d fill you all in on what a typical day is for me and finish off with letting you know the projects I have in the works! Exciting times ahead!
This will be a typical work day for me as weekends tend to be a little more free reign and there’s more wiggle room to do things and shift things around. So my day starts at 5 a.m. This is my prime writing time, I “trained” myself to wake up at this time so I could get in a little solid writing time before I go to my day job. It’s basically wake up, go to the bathroom, pour a coffee, set up my “station” and hammer out as much writing as I can before 6:45 a.m. when I have to stop to get ready for my day job; make my lunch, tidy up the kitchen a little, put my writing stuff away, then head out.
From 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. I am at my day job. Here is where a lot of my ideas come to me, call it daydreaming, call it brainstorming, call it whatever; this seems to be where a LOT of my ideas pop up… maybe a better word would be escapism. haha! Either way, I always carry around a tiny notepad, but most thoughts get written down on post-it notes. Seriously, I could probably be a spokesperson for them (Hello Post-It note makers!) don’t believe me? Just ask my wife, she’s seen the aftermath of a day of thought processes… post-its everywhere.
Once I leave work, I come home and hit the old exercise routine, gotta stay happy and healthy right? After busting out a sweat and then showering it’s off to make supper. I enjoy cooking and trying new things, but let’s be honest a lot of times its cycling through the usual stuff (“alls oldies but goldies” right?) trying new things is usually set for weekends when it’s not such a rush to make things. (Heavens forbid if the kids need to wait for food to cook!) and while I’m cooking up a storm, this is when I do some learning. Watching a MasterClass, learning things from all the awesome people out there with YouTube channels, or watching a good ol’ documentary. (Wait, does this… does this mean I can do two things at once!?! Don’t tell the wife!)
Once supper is done it’s time to clean up. Now let me just say, besides sitting in front of a computer punching buttons and letting words flow out, my other happy place is in the kitchen, cooking, baking, and… yes, even cleaning up. I actually enjoy washing the dishes, it’s just another little chunk of time I can do some thinking and brainstorming. (Truth time: I also am a little anal with the way dishes are washed and put in the drain tray, so I’d just rather do it myself. I’ve actually “argued” with Suzanne (the Wife) to let me wash the dishes!)
Once clean up is done it’s time to kick back and relax a little, watch some tv, play a game, catch up on some TikTok watching, the evenings I leave open for whatever. Once in a while the family wants to just go do their own thing, so in those instances I’m, you guessed it, in front of the computer plugging away a little more.
A little relaxing and a couple “bedtime” snacks later, and it’s time to get ready and head to bed after we make sure the kids are all taken care of. Bed time is negotiable, depending on several factors, but I try to be asleep no later than 11:30 p.m. sometimes it’s earlier, sometimes, it’s much later.
Wash, rinse, repeat. Of course there are variables in there, but this is typically the average day for me. So, if you’ve made it this far you’re probably wondering “Why are you doing this? What are you all working on to put so much effort in?”
The simple answer is: Because I love to write! I always have, and though there were periods in my life when things faltered or were derailed due to certain people and events, I have now blossomed and discovered what it is I really want in life, and I am working hard to see those dreams fulfilled. (it’s never too late right?) As for where things stand at the moment:
My novel Shadow Clave, is now edited and polished to the point I will be seeking out an agent to try and get this sucker traditionally published. (Though thoughts of self publishing have entered my mind, that’s a whole other can of worms that I don’t think I’m ready to tackle)
The rough draft to a second book following Shadow Clave is written and waiting to be edited.
The rough draft to a stand alone novel with the working title: Rules of a Tyrant is being written right now and is sitting around 51,500 words at the moment. It should be completed by the end of the month. fingers crossed!
I had a short story published in an anthology in 2019 (No longer in publication) titled “To Save A King.” this short story sparked an idea for a series of short stories/novellas and I have two parts of it written but I had to put that aside as it needs some heavy plotting done as things weren’t jiving right timeline wise. But plans to finish it are definitely in the works!
I have a contemporary/semi-biographical piece partially written but it needs a little more plotting added to it as well.
And now as of yesterday I have begun plotting what is turning out to be a psychological horror novel, a genre I have never even thought about writing before (but that’s a whole other post!) haha.
One last thing! I have been working with some awesome people who asked me to write some skits for them, it’s still early in the process, so I won’t say too much on this, but be forewarned, something awesome may be rolling out within the next few months! Stay tuned!
Well, that’s about all (I think). If you made it this far, thank you for taking the time to read it through! I hope you enjoyed, and if you have any questions or comments, definitely reach out to me, or hit me up on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram! (Though to be honest Twitters your best bet to get a hold of me at the moment, still working on the whole, “spreading out over social media” thing) also stay tuned! more posts and changes are sure to be coming! And as always; Stay happy, Stay healthy, and Stay magical!
