What a CRAZY time!

This has been a long time in the works! I haven’t been on in a long time due to a number of personal reasons including moving, business stuff, and just trying to navigate these new waters… What new waters you ask? Well I’m working on redesigning this website (By the Gods I hope I get this right!) haha. as well as trying to bump up my Social Media presence… Why you may ask? If you go look at my homepage (AFTER you finish reading this!) You’ll see right at the top that… I’M GOING TO BE A PUBLISHED AUTHOR! that’s right, after two years of highs and lows…and many many changes within my writing life… I will be self publishing my Debut novel, TO SAVE A KING, which comes out in E-Book and Paperback on March 29,2022. (You can pre-order the E-Book now (Only on Amazon) which means it will be available for Kindle Unlimited too.

And just so you know, I am working hard a will have book 2 of the Death Blossom Saga, The Order of Axis, out later this year. That’s right, I will be releasing the second book later this year, and the ball is just getting rolling, I have many, incredible novels to come out, so stay tuned into this channel and follow me on FaceBook, Instagram, and Twitter.

In other news, I have been having to go solo on the YouTube channel Mead With Erick and Derrick as my business partner has become too busy to post anything for the foreseeable future. (At least until his schooling ends.) So, if you have some time, and are interested in learning how to make Mead (If is a fun assed hobby!) go check out the channel and show me some more love by giving the videos a like and subscribe.

Well that’s it for now, just want to let you guys know how things are progressing, and I will be doing a better job of upkeeping this site. So check back often to see what’s new!

Stay Happy, Stay Healthy, and Stay Magical.

Writing Update.

Good day all you awesome people! Just wants to take a brief moment to update you on things, so please bear with me, as my excitement is climbing higher and higher! Oh, so many things, where to begin. First off, I guess I’ll start with my writing.

The Dragon Swords trilogy I have decided to put on the back burner for a while as I feel I need to further develop that world and the story line as it is huge, with a lot of moving parts, so that will be going onto the back burner for a while (Sorry all you awesome people that have Beta read it and loved it, I know you want more but it needed to simmer a while longer.) But, with that happening, I bring to you a new adventure. I call it, The Death Blossom Saga. A series of novellas, each with a different character as it’s main focus, each with their own struggles, yet all coming together by the final book to deal with the whole plot arc that twists into each book.

The best way to explain it would be to think of the Marvel movies; Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, ect. Each movie is its own, with little hints of something bigger within them, only to end up all together for the big battle in The Avengers.

Make sense? I hope so. The first book in the series “To Save A King” is being edited at the moment and I will be self-publishing it and releasing it later THIS YEAR, 2021. an exact day will be released later so stay tuned, but the cover has been finalized and will be released later too. With book two “The Order Of Axis” soon to follow. All other books in the series have been plotted out as well so I should be able to press through and get them out to you in fairly regular intervals. I am so excited to have this series told I can barely contain myself! haha.

I will try my best to keep you updated more regularly. But as you can tell, I have obviously been very busy. On top of that I have been making great headway with the Mead with Erick and Derrick YouTube channel, becoming a partner in the business which means even more writing, and now filming added to the pile. It’s a lot, I know, but I love it. Soon I’ll be on their channel more regularly too, but for now if you want to see a little of the fun antics we’ve been up to, check us out on TikTok @themeadguys. We have a lot of fun that’s for sure!

Well I better leave it at that for now, this thing isn’t going to edit itself (unfortunately, haha) Until next time. Stay happy, Stay healthy, and Stay Magical.

Writing Update.

Hello all you awesome people! My goodness it’s been over a month since I last posted here. My how the time flies! This has been much overdue, but it has been a crazy month. So let’s start with some bad news, and then turn to the good news so we end things on a good note. Haha

Well, sadly my novel I was querying “Shadow Clave” has been rejected by all the agents I sent it to. So sadly that project will have to go on the back burner until I figure out what to do with it. (Keep seeking an agent or self publish…hhhmmmm) Also more sad news: The YouTube channel I was writing skits for, well, it’s going through some changes and a little restructuring (Nothing over the top bad or anything) but this means that the skits I wrote will have to be pushed back.

But the good news far outweighs the bad! The skits may have been pushed back but they are still going hard with making mead videos and they asked me to play a bigger roll. So I am now filming TikToks for them as my character “Beau”, Mead with Erick and Derricks Creative Sensei. Definitely check them out @themeadguys . Not only will you learn some great mead making tips, you will also see some hilarious videos sure to make you laugh/shake your head!

As for writing? Well April was Camp NaNoWriMo. What is that you ask? It’s a challenge you set for yourself for the month, it could be writing a certain word count, or a certain editing goal, really anything you want to achieve. I treated it like an actual NaNoWriMo and chose to try and write 50,000 words in the month… and I did it! I had to push off “Rules of a Tyrant” but I did so for a great reason. See, I had a short story published in an anthology a couple years ago that is no longer in publication. So rights to the short story returned to me. Recently I have been chatting with many awesome authors on Twitter and for their help would ask if they would care to read the short story. Everyone one of them stated that they loved it and wished it was longer/ that I’d turn it into a series. Now, when I first wrote the short story it did spark an idea for a series but I wanted to focus on Shadow Clave at the time so I shelfed the idea. But with such overwhelming responses I decided to flip things and shelf Shadow Clave for the time being and focus on this other series. “The Death Blossom Saga.” I wrote book two “Order of Axis” during the month of April and am now working on rewriting the short story. It’s a lot to get into right now so maybe I’ll explain things more clear in a different post.

That being said, I also have a cover design for book one, but want to wait until I have it fully written before I do the big reveal. I will also start working on some other goodies as well! The goal is to have book one out by the end of summer with book two hopefully later in the year… That’s right, two books by the end of the year, with many more to come, as fast as I can write, edit, and do all the fun behind the scenes stuff that needs to happen for a book to be ready for publishing. But don’t worry, I will definitely keep everyone updated on the progress of things!

Well I think that’s all for now! Definitely check me out on social media and write to say hello! Until next time: Stay Happy, Stay Healthy, and Stay Magical!

Writing Update!

Hello once again! Glad you could make it back. (And if you’re new here welcome, and please feel free to look around) I can hardly believe it’s been a month since I started this site. A lot has happened in the last few weeks since I took the leap to launch this site, so much so, that I feel bad I haven’t given this site the care and attention I feel it deserves. *insert sad face emoji* But check out my new logo! I’m so in love with it! Be prepared to start seeing it everywhere!

So, what has been keeping me so busy you may ask? Well let me give you a rundown of where things are sitting. With something exciting I will mention at the end, so please keep reading! (If you are looking for a full list of all the projects I have on the go checkout my post ‘All In A Days Work’)

One thing I will mention is that to said full list above, I did forget to mention that I also wrote a picture book, I have the story line written out, I just need to work on some drawings for it, but just haven’t been able to think of a ‘style’ I like yet.

Shadow Clave is now out being queried. Surprisingly I received a rejection after only 4 hours of it being out. We will see how the other agents react. (Your loss Mr. Agent, haha)

Rules of a Tyrant is now sitting at around 62,000 words. Not nearly as far as I would have liked, but I did get stuck on a part that wasn’t working out. I am past that hurdle and am full steam ahead now, but this will push back my other works, unfortunately.

I have had several people read my short story ‘To Save A King” and have given glorious reviews, with requests for me to write the rest of the series. Now I am debating writing out that series (I plotted out several following novels) and have been heavily debating self-publishing it. Doing this would conflict with my other plans though of writing the psychological horror that popped into my head; I have been researching for it very heavily and still itch to write it. So my dilemma is: Write the horror novel that’s been plaguing me and get it out of my system, or dive back into my other world, of dragons and vampires and a very determined young princess? (Note that I feel equally passionate about both these projects, hence why I haven’t figured out which direction to go!)

Now to the BIG thing… The skits I was asked to write. A couple of them have been accepted and the guys are planning to record them soon! These skits are going to be short YouTube videos, played out as a series, centering around a fairly new hobby of mine: Mead. These guys know their shit when it comes to this superior drink, and they teach you all about the process and techniques of making mead, they do it in a comedic way, making it fun to watch what antics they come up with. I will post a link to their channel, they are just starting out so you should definitely like and subscribe to see how far these guys go, you’ll learn to make a delicious drink and get some great laughs. As an example: These skits I was asked to write, they asked for them to be styled like Mel Brooks movies or Monty Python. Which brought back many fond memories of these hilarious movies. So after some great movie watching to refresh my memory on some things (sometimes research can be so tough, hey?), I got cracking. They have also mentioned possibly writing more skits separate from this series, but we will wait to see how the series go. Like I said, definitely go like and Subscribe so you don’t miss it!

So I have been VERY busy focusing on these skits and lots of communication back and forth to get a feel for these men. I feel they are going to go very far with this and we have also been discussing future projects but I will wait to mention what these things are until we all have a clear vision of what they could lead to. So this has eaten up a lot of my time, but I definitely feel like it will be worth it in the end. Here’s is the link to their first video, please note that the giveaway in this video is over, but I’m sure they will come out with many more!

I really hope you listened and followed these guys, not only to learn about homebrewing, but also to see the skits I have written (Once they all get recorded!) and please follow me as there are many big plans for in the near future! Stay tuned!

If you have any questions or comments please feel free to message me, or hit me up on my social media, but note that I am most active on Twitter, just a heads up! Have a great week and as always, Stay Happy, Stay Healthy, and Stay Magical!

Finding YOUR passion

Welcome back! I hope you are all doing well! So let me get right into it. Last week I posted about finding my passion in life. This week, I want to talk about finding YOUR passion. Interested? Come, walk with me.

So the simple answer is: you have to do things. I mean, how do you know you don’t like something if you’ve never tried it, right? If you read my last post then you will know that I tend to do a lot, like, excessively so. But it was through doing those things that I finally discovered what it is I want to do in life, what makes me happy; AND picked up the fun hobby of mead making. Now granted, I always enjoyed writing, even from a long time ago, but it was not really something I took overly serious (It shows in my high school transcripts haha) It wasn’t until I really took on the challenge of NaNoWriMo that I realized… I could do this. I was nervous and honestly thought I would fail at it. But I tried really hard and ended up winning it and blowing past the goal by several thousand words.

But before I did this I tried many other things. As I write this I am recalling when I took a Professional Cooking course in college. In the course were learned all kinds of styles of cooking; breakfast, lunch buffet, bistro, fine dining, we ran the gamut in a very intense year. Along with learning all the different styles of cooking we also had to try everything we cooked. Now, this was a long long time ago, and back then, I ABSOLUTELY hated sea food (having never really tried it). So I was dreading the seafood course I knew I would inevitably have to do. I can tell you, I still do not like escargot… but I fell in love with shrimp and calamari!

This is much the same as life. How do you know you don’t like it if you don’t try it? I hear of so many people, especially with lock downs and all the shit going on in the world, that just… don’t do anything. They have been stuck at home, eating, watching tv, and.. going insane. I could never really understand this. I WANTED to not have to go to work, all I could think of was all the things I could have done. I’m sure you’re thinking “You say that now but if you were home all the time you’d lose your motivation.” this is totally untrue, and I know it for a fact. Why? because there are so many things I want to learn, to try and do, that I was enraged and frustrated that I didn’t get the time to do more. You could even ask my kids. There were many times in frustration I said “How can you guys just play video games all the time, and complain you’re bored when there is so much you could do in the world.”

Maybe this stems from something I was told at a very young age. I forget what grade I was in, but the teacher at the time told the class, and I quote, “If you ever say you are bored, then you are the stupidest person in the world. There is so many things to learn and discover, a person should never be bored.” Now that has always stuck with me, and now that I’m older I realize more and more how true it is. There are so many things I want to try and do that I get frustrated that I don’t have the time to do them. Especially with the way cell phones and the internets are now, you can learn anything just by searching it or watching a YouTube video (That’s how I learned to completely renovate my bathroom.)

What kinds of things would I do if I had time to do them? Well, be better at posting blogs and running this website for one. But I would love to learn another language. also sign language, I always thought it would be so awesome to learn, playing an instrument is another thing I’d like to do, learning graphic designing, honestly I couldn’t list everything, mainly because there are things I haven’t even thought of that I’d want to learn. This is probably why I’m drawn to writing so much, as to make a story believable authors go through a lot of research, and I love the researching as it leads me to so many interesting things, case in point, I’m doing a deep dive into researching 16th century England. (Among other things, but I don’t want to spoil why haha)

So how to you find your passion? Simple, get out there and try things. True, you may try something that you think you are interested in and find it completely sucks. But that doesn’t mean it was a waste of time, it just means you weren’t as interested as you thought. Sometimes you have to try what may be the strangest thing but you’ll find you’ll love it. Maybe collecting stamps is something you love. At first glance you think “Yeah right.” but then once you start looking into it you find a thrill in seeking out rare stamps, and that searching and hunting is what drives you. You just never know.

And finding your passion doesn’t mean it has to be your job. Your passion is just something that you love to do, that brings you joy in this world. It could be something as simple as coloring, just something that you can go and do, and it makes you happy. My passion is writing, and yes, I would love my writing to draw in money, but truthfully, deep down, if I didn’t make any money off my writing, I’d be ok with that, because while I am writing I get to whisk myself away to other worlds, other times, and that makes me happy.

So get out there; Try new things, even if right now they seem like the craziest thing. You don’t need to explain yourself to anyone, because this is for you, this is to search out things that make you happy, and being happy makes life so much more fun. I wish you all good luck in finding your happy place, your passion, whatever it may be. And as always, Stay happy, Stay healthy, and Stay magical by friends.

Finding My Passion

Welcome, welcome. Hope you’re finding yourself well. Let me tell you, its been a hell of a week here for me. Pitched an idea to a friend and they loved the idea so I have now added another project to my long laundry list of things to do. This seems to be a problem of mine, and drives my wife CRAZY. If you read my last post you know that I have a pretty busy day to day life. Don’t get me wrong, there are days I “flatline” and do nothing all day. For example, yesterday. I did pretty much nothing but binge watch Schitt’s Creek with Suzanne… though I did send out a couple Query letters to try and land myself an agent. But most days are busy, and sometimes I stretch myself pretty thin, as you’re about to find out. As much as most people don’t want to, let’s rewind to a year ago, when Covid brought the world to a screeching halt. (I promise I will barely talk about the actual virus.) Onwards!

So everyone knows and remembers the way things got so crazy in the world, grocery stores were bought out of a ton of things and all that jazz, it seemed like people were going crazy. Now it may have been bad timing but just before all this I was binge watching A LOT of zombie movies, pretty much any one, new or old I could find. so when things went to shit my brain immediately snapped into “survival mode.” I started researching some crazy things, but I won’t get into that, but in the end I will say I did learn some pretty neat things. Anywhoo… so Suzanne lost her job due to the wonderful things happening in the world, I was lucky enough to be able to keep my day job, but things got tight of course. To keep a long story short(er) I learned many things, how to make mead, I expanded the garden, learned a lot about homeopathy and living off the land, how to can and make a lot of things myself (to save as much money as possible) and also in the interest of trying to keep the financials up, I was running a small gluten free bakery from my home (it was legal, had my license and everything) I was also trying to write, and had the crazy idea to start a YouTube channel (really, I don’t know what I was thinking), maybe to blog, just all these things ran through my head.

So you could say that I wasn’t just burning the candle from both ends, I decided to light the damn thing in the middle as well. With the kids and Suzanne stuck at home and me running around like a chicken with its head cut off, at one point my daughter just looked at me and said “Stop, you’re making us all feel bad.” When I asked her what she meant she explained to me that I was doing all these things and it was making her feel bad. So I took a step back and went through everything. She was right. Not only was I still working full time, I had loaded my plate to the point of shattering under the weight. So I reflected and realized I was putting a lot of stress on myself, which was making my tired, grumpy and mentally unhealthy. So I decided to unload my burdens. First to go was the realization that the world wasn’t going to turn into the zombie apocalypse so I could stop sharpening my rake handles. Next was the bakery, people loved the food but trying to bake and market and all that crap after working 8 hours was near impossible. Plus it got to be a real pain in the ass trying to connect with the customer to deliver their orders. After that was the YouTube channel (it was centered around mead and baking.) It was fun and an interesting experience, but I just didn’t have the time needed to dedicate to filming and editing. I realized that the written word was a better place for me. So I decided to drop everything and focus on what I really wanted to do. Write; and it seemed just in time. It was October at this point, and we had early heavy frost so I had to dig up the garden. With that task done and out of the way until spring that freed up even more time, and I figured I would attempt NaNoWriMo. I thought of doing this for several years but the timing was just never right. So I picked up my writing and put my full effort into it. I did end up winning it (Write 50,000 words in a month) and from there the bug of writing as a career began to burrow into my head.

Now, several months later we are here. I have written several novels in various points of the process ( One ready to query, one ready for first round edits, one half written and several partially started and a lot of ideas on Post-It notes) I have started this website and I am once again adding onto my plate again with my pitch being accepted. I am becoming more and more busy once again, but at least this time it’s all centered around writing… so that’s better…right?

Well that was my year, just crazy ass busyness, a lot of learning, and a discovering of my true passion. I have goals set now for where I would like to be, and through some hard work, some “piling the plate to full”, and a lot of understanding from Suzanne, I will see my vision come to fruition. I know it will all be worth it in the end, as writing, of any sort, has become a happy place. Stay tuned, more updates and great things are in store!

P.S. I do still make mead, as that really became a fun “hobby.”

All In A Days Work

To start out, I would just like to thank you all for coming to check this out. I know it’s not much right now but plans and ideas are in the workings as I continue to grow and build this site. So please, bear with me as I learn this whole website thing.

Today I thought I’d fill you all in on what a typical day is for me and finish off with letting you know the projects I have in the works! Exciting times ahead!

This will be a typical work day for me as weekends tend to be a little more free reign and there’s more wiggle room to do things and shift things around. So my day starts at 5 a.m. This is my prime writing time, I “trained” myself to wake up at this time so I could get in a little solid writing time before I go to my day job. It’s basically wake up, go to the bathroom, pour a coffee, set up my “station” and hammer out as much writing as I can before 6:45 a.m. when I have to stop to get ready for my day job; make my lunch, tidy up the kitchen a little, put my writing stuff away, then head out.

From 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. I am at my day job. Here is where a lot of my ideas come to me, call it daydreaming, call it brainstorming, call it whatever; this seems to be where a LOT of my ideas pop up… maybe a better word would be escapism. haha! Either way, I always carry around a tiny notepad, but most thoughts get written down on post-it notes. Seriously, I could probably be a spokesperson for them (Hello Post-It note makers!) don’t believe me? Just ask my wife, she’s seen the aftermath of a day of thought processes… post-its everywhere.

Once I leave work, I come home and hit the old exercise routine, gotta stay happy and healthy right? After busting out a sweat and then showering it’s off to make supper. I enjoy cooking and trying new things, but let’s be honest a lot of times its cycling through the usual stuff (“alls oldies but goldies” right?) trying new things is usually set for weekends when it’s not such a rush to make things. (Heavens forbid if the kids need to wait for food to cook!) and while I’m cooking up a storm, this is when I do some learning. Watching a MasterClass, learning things from all the awesome people out there with YouTube channels, or watching a good ol’ documentary. (Wait, does this… does this mean I can do two things at once!?! Don’t tell the wife!)

Once supper is done it’s time to clean up. Now let me just say, besides sitting in front of a computer punching buttons and letting words flow out, my other happy place is in the kitchen, cooking, baking, and… yes, even cleaning up. I actually enjoy washing the dishes, it’s just another little chunk of time I can do some thinking and brainstorming. (Truth time: I also am a little anal with the way dishes are washed and put in the drain tray, so I’d just rather do it myself. I’ve actually “argued” with Suzanne (the Wife) to let me wash the dishes!)

Once clean up is done it’s time to kick back and relax a little, watch some tv, play a game, catch up on some TikTok watching, the evenings I leave open for whatever. Once in a while the family wants to just go do their own thing, so in those instances I’m, you guessed it, in front of the computer plugging away a little more.

A little relaxing and a couple “bedtime” snacks later, and it’s time to get ready and head to bed after we make sure the kids are all taken care of. Bed time is negotiable, depending on several factors, but I try to be asleep no later than 11:30 p.m. sometimes it’s earlier, sometimes, it’s much later.

Wash, rinse, repeat. Of course there are variables in there, but this is typically the average day for me. So, if you’ve made it this far you’re probably wondering “Why are you doing this? What are you all working on to put so much effort in?”

The simple answer is: Because I love to write! I always have, and though there were periods in my life when things faltered or were derailed due to certain people and events, I have now blossomed and discovered what it is I really want in life, and I am working hard to see those dreams fulfilled. (it’s never too late right?) As for where things stand at the moment:

My novel Shadow Clave, is now edited and polished to the point I will be seeking out an agent to try and get this sucker traditionally published. (Though thoughts of self publishing have entered my mind, that’s a whole other can of worms that I don’t think I’m ready to tackle)

The rough draft to a second book following Shadow Clave is written and waiting to be edited.

The rough draft to a stand alone novel with the working title: Rules of a Tyrant is being written right now and is sitting around 51,500 words at the moment. It should be completed by the end of the month. fingers crossed!

I had a short story published in an anthology in 2019 (No longer in publication) titled “To Save A King.” this short story sparked an idea for a series of short stories/novellas and I have two parts of it written but I had to put that aside as it needs some heavy plotting done as things weren’t jiving right timeline wise. But plans to finish it are definitely in the works!

I have a contemporary/semi-biographical piece partially written but it needs a little more plotting added to it as well.

And now as of yesterday I have begun plotting what is turning out to be a psychological horror novel, a genre I have never even thought about writing before (but that’s a whole other post!) haha.

One last thing! I have been working with some awesome people who asked me to write some skits for them, it’s still early in the process, so I won’t say too much on this, but be forewarned, something awesome may be rolling out within the next few months! Stay tuned!

Well, that’s about all (I think). If you made it this far, thank you for taking the time to read it through! I hope you enjoyed, and if you have any questions or comments, definitely reach out to me, or hit me up on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram! (Though to be honest Twitters your best bet to get a hold of me at the moment, still working on the whole, “spreading out over social media” thing) also stay tuned! more posts and changes are sure to be coming! And as always; Stay happy, Stay healthy, and Stay magical!

How this came to be.

First off, I would like to just say thank you to all who come to check out this site of mine. I know it’s still pretty raw, but I am learning as I go (as aren’t most of us) and hopefully I can turn this into something spectacular. I have been wanting to have this up for a while now but I’m not exactly the most tech savvy person. Have been getting a lot of help from a friend and a brother in law. Shout out to you guys John and Dave!

Now, I have attempted several different websites, because, you know, they are all the rage. The first one I thought ‘I’m going to be a blogger! Yeah!’ but with no actual planning done it obviously faltered miserably, not knowing what to write.

The next time I thought to make a website was due to me starting my own bakery business at home, so a website would be a great thing right? Wrong. I still didn’t have the knowledge to do this shit, and in between working a full time job during the day, trying to promote my own business, and baking away trying to fill orders I didn’t have the time to dedicate to a website.

So now we are here. “But what’s the difference this time?” you ask. Well the difference is that this time I have found my true passion; writing. I won’t go into much detail now, but I took on a lot in 2020, actually too much, and several things had to be put to the wayside. But there was a ton of personal growth (Ok, ok, we will say in the last two years.) and a resurfacing of past dreams. One of those past dreams was to become a published author, so I have taken steps to make this a reality. This site is another one of those steps, an author webpage. (Initiate audience applause) So here we are at the Bradley Gosselin author web page, and although I still know jack shit about techy stuff, I’m really going to try and put my full effort into this. Here you will find updates of my writing progress, the challenges I am facing through my journey, Interesting (to me) mythological things that I discover in my research, and who knows, maybe even the occasional drawing now and then.

Their may not be much to see at the moment but I thank you again for coming and snooping around to see what it’s all about. Great things will be rolling out, hopefully soon. If you’d like, follow me on other social media, be it Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. Or comment here, I’d love to get to know you!
